My choice for the ultimate bowl of Vietnamese Beef Noodles goes to Hai Yen Vietnamese Restaurant located at 646 Kingsway (just off Fraser St.) operated by Hai and Yen, a husband and wife couple. The star soup maker and cook is Hai’s mother Nhung, who is a petite woman that cooks up a storm in one of the cleanest kitchens I have seen. (That’s the place where I check out first before trying any new establishment).

Why I like the place is because I can easily park in the back of the restaurant, come by the Kitchen, say Hello to Nhung who always smiles back politely. I usually have a small no. 19. the Pho Tai, Sliced Rare Beef for $5.95. The soup is always piping hot, fresh, and prepared with hand picked beef bones, flank, salt, pepper, burnt onions, star anise, and sugar to taste. There is also a chicken broth for the non beef eaters.

Try a Vietnamese Hot Black Coffee either iced or hot to compliment!  Oh, by the way, another hot item on the menu are the deep fired spring rolls.  Crispy  and very tasty…

There you have it…my favourite bowl of Vietnamese Pho Noodles in Vancouver!
